Led the vision, strategy, and development of a custom online 3D Design Center for a leading sports apparel manufacturer. After starting my career as a Graphic Designer in 2006 and joining Jakroo in 2011, I saw an opportunity to create a more intuitive and engaging way for customers to design custom apparel online.
Working closely with developers, I helped build and launch a fully interactive 3D product configurator from the ground up. Over the past 15+ years, I’ve played a key role in evolving and modernizing the platform — leading its transition from a legacy Flash-based system to a modern HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript architecture.
Today, the Design Center allows customers to customize hundreds of products in real time using 3D models, with features including color and patt customization, text and artwork tools, uploaded graphics, multiple product views, dynamic studio backgrounds, live designer support, and AI-powered image generation tools.
This project combined my background in design, 3D, product strategy, and user experience with hands-on collaboration across development teams to create a scalable platform that improved both the customer experience and internal production workflow.

As Design Services Director, I led the development of a custom internal design workflow and project management system built specifically for our business needs. Working with frontend and backend developers, I created a robust web-based platform using HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS that replaced previous third-party tools. This system features an intelligent intake process, automated project creation, and smart task scheduling that assigns work based on each designer’s real-time availability and daily capacity. It tracks both new creative designs and revision tasks while providing KPI dashboards, workload monitoring, and detailed monthly reporting on task volume, turnaround times, and production costs.

Directed the creation of a customer-facing 3D Design Approval Center that delivers a highly visual and interactive review experience. Clients can rotate, zoom, and view their designs on fully rendered 3D models from multiple angles, including men’s and women’s fits, different poses, and product variations. The platform supports clear communication between the customer and account manager, offers two free edits, manages additional edit charges, and allows customers to share designs for team feedback. Once approved, designs are automatically saved to the customer’s locker for purchase or team store use.

Developed and managed a proprietary color management system featuring a curated palette of 136 accurate, production-ready colors. This system ensures strong visual consistency between on-screen colors in Adobe Illustrator and the final sublimated fabric output across both of our manufacturing facilities in Beijing and Thailand. The palette includes standard colors, fluorescent options, and matches to pre-dyed fabrics. To support this accuracy, I created a physical fabric color chart containing all 136 colors that customers can request and receive for free. This approach gives customers reliable, predictable color results they can trust while maintaining color consistency between both factories.

Developed and implemented a custom Test Print Request System to give our U.S.-based design team direct access to physical color and gradient testing from our overseas manufacturing facilities in Beijing and Thailand. The platform allows designers, account managers, and customers to submit test print requests that automatically generate factory tickets. These requests trigger printing, sublimation onto specified fabrics, professional photography of the results, and immediate digital upload for review. Additional features include the ability to ship physical samples and a smart Focused Test Print option that significantly reduces fabric and ink waste on simpler designs. This system has greatly improved color accuracy, shortened revision cycles, and gives the design team fast, reliable feedback despite the ocean between us.

Personally developed and coded three custom AI-powered image generation tools using Google Gemini to build, iterate, and test the code, then integrated them directly into the company’s 3D Design Center and internal workflow systems. The first tool helps customers who don’t have a clear vision by letting them start with curated prompt ideas, then refine colors, logos, and emblems to generate inspirational concepts. The second tool takes those AI-generated concepts and intelligently extracts production-ready graphics, logos, and emblems from complex backgrounds or foregrounds. The third tool supports marketing by allowing the team to upload a completed jersey design and instantly generate photorealistic studio images with consistent lighting, diverse models (varying hair, ethnicity, gender), and sport-specific poses. These tools accelerate the entire creative process, reduce reliance on external assets, deliver ready-to-produce artwork, and create high-quality marketing visuals—strengthening customer engagement and positioning Jakroo as an innovation leader in sports apparel customization.

Provided strategic creative leadership for the planning, design, and execution of dozens of trade show booths, pop-up activations, and community race events. Directed cross-functional collaboration with marketing and sales teams to define event objectives, messaging, and deliverables while ensuring full adherence to the brand guidelines I helped develop and refine. Oversaw the creation of cohesive, immersive environments—including custom backdrops, pop-up tents, branded flags, table displays, mannequins, and product merchandising—as well as supporting collateral such as lookbooks, catalogs, stationery, and promotional giveaways. These efforts consistently elevated brand visibility, strengthened market presence, and generated high-quality leads across both industry and consumer events.

Directed and produced a full library of professional YouTube videos to support brand awareness, customer education, and sales growth for Jakroo’s custom sports apparel business. As Design Services Director, I led the creative strategy, scripting, story-boarding, filming direction, and post-production oversight for commercial promotional videos, step-by-step tutorial walk-throughs of the 3D Design Center, and informative content explaining the custom apparel design and manufacturing process. Working closely with marketing and sales teams, I ensured all videos maintained strong brand consistency while clearly demonstrating product features, design capabilities, and the end-to-end customer journey. These videos have significantly increased audience engagement, improved customer confidence in the online design experience, driven traffic to the Design Center, and served as powerful sales tools across both B2B and consumer channels.
